Book of the week - In Flanders Fields

 Everyone knows the poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae. This is the poem and everything you'd want to know about the poem and war.

 Every other page of the book is a detailed description or account of some of the events that happened around the time the poem was written. 

The poem is well illustrated and gives a gimps of life during the war.

Austyn can't wait to see this movie!

We read the book after being told about it from Alex who publishes the Canadian Home Learning blog and it was amazing! I recommend it to anyone with a child who loves suspence and adventure. An obsession with tinkering with things couldn't hurt either.

Book Sharing Monday - My Village

My Village is a collection of rhymes from around the world. 

Each rhyme has the English version and the Pronunciation version and if there is a unique handwriting they have included that as well. It was neat to read different common rhymes from many different countries.

Telus World of Science - Narnia

 We went to The Telus World of Science for Family Day to check out the Narnia exhibit. We saw the White Queens dress.

 We felt a frozen waterfall and read about how weather is controlled by global warming. We got to lift battle gear.

 We learned how a stone arch is built. 

 Zoe made a Lucy doll and outfits out of paper.

 Austyn made a shield and decorated it with symbols.

We saw many other outfits from the movies and saw the wardrobe that the author used which inspired him to write about Narnia.

Late Night Work

Sometimes they do a great job of delving into subjects of interest at night time. In this picture Zoe is working on her Harry Lapbook (found here) and Austyn is working on a Grade 2 Curriculum booklet purchased at Toys R Us. He loves the geography section of this book. Night time is sometimes a good time for this as long as they aren't too tired. 

What a great way to wind down from a busy day, before bed!

Alice In Wonderland with Lego!

Austyn created this great Alice in Wonderland themed Lego. There is the tiny door with a key hole and then the table with the little glass bottle and the key. 

After making it and setting it up in the living room Zoe acted out the character of Alice and pretended to shrink and grow until she finally figured out how to open the door and enter a new world. When she entered the new world she ran outside of our house pretending that was the new world.

100 Books-A-Month Challenge

We joined the 100 Books-A-Month Challenge.

Before we joined I already had decided at the beginning of this month that I would keep track of the books we read. I had already started compiling a list. We are to record all of the books we have read and if we read them over we count each time the book is read. For novels we count each chapter as a book. I am proud to report that we have already reached over 100 for November!
