this moment - missing kids

{this moment}

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

"Um... has anyone seen my children?"
 snicker, snicker...  ;)

Late Night Work

Sometimes they do a great job of delving into subjects of interest at night time. In this picture Zoe is working on her Harry Lapbook (found here) and Austyn is working on a Grade 2 Curriculum booklet purchased at Toys R Us. He loves the geography section of this book. Night time is sometimes a good time for this as long as they aren't too tired.

What a great way to wind down from a busy day, before bed!

Smithsonian Mega Science Lab - Volcano

We have used the Smithsonian Mega Science Lab for two other projects so far. This is Austyn's third project. See the dino dig here and the gem dig here.

We did this project over a few days. First we stuck the parts together and added the string. The string was tricky so he needed my help for that.

He then added the plaster material pieces. I just helped him to smooth it out and be sure that all of it was covered.

While he painted, Zoe painted with her paints.

I love the details he added.

We added the ingredients and... VOILA!

Here is our volcano spitting.

Math

He did a bit of math this week. He loves math, but mostly the hands-on and figures-in-his-head parts. He's not a huge fan of worksheets, but will do them once and a while.

Book Sharing Monday - Listen, Listen

Listen, Listen by Phillis Gershator and Alison Jay is a book that helps us to think about the sounds of seasons.

Listen, Listen... Autumn's gone. Snowflakes whisper "Winter's fun".
Shhh, shhh, snowy night. Snow Sparkles, white, bright.

At the end of this book there is a picture find for each season.

More Fun Triops Information!

A homeschool friend shared that her son wanted to start his triops kit because of this song. I just had to look up this song online to hear it. What fun!
Here is a more educational video. Less fun than the one above it, but still cool!

Here is a link to more interesting information on Triops:

Triops - One Left

We were hopeful that the last two living Triops were a couple so we can have another generation of Triops in our little tank. Unfortunately one died and now we only have one. We started our eggs on December 27th. I assume they didn't have time to procreate.
Austyn took the opportunity to look more closely at the one that died.
