I run a Homeschool Lego Club in our area and while there Zoe made these. I thought it was great! What a great way to practice words using a different medium. Forget pencils or crayons!! She used Lego to make her name and Austyn's name!

Lego Club
Recently, I was able to get enough Lego to continue on with Lego Club. As soon as I had my hands on the pieces, I booked a club day the same week. I started to look in September for Lego, but it has taken THIS long to get enough to run it with our own Lego, because nobody wants to give up their Lego.
I know I've said the benefits of Lego Club before, but it does the obvious, which is inspires creativity and fosters friendships. It is also physics, math, science, mechanics, co-operation, team building, public speaking, and so much more! We have the kids bring their Lego creations from home or a picture. At the end of our time together they share what they have done at home and also what they made at the club. It's like show-and-tell.
Austyn brought his Titanic that he made at home. We have been displaying it on our fireplace mantle so, even though he made it a couple of weeks ago, it's still in great shape. He changed a couple of things on the boat since that earlier picture. He added a couple of tall stacks and put a string across between them.
After a little while Zoe got bored of Lego and went to play on the computer in another room and two of her friends followed.
It's great to have this club, finally, established and open to ALL homeschoolers in our area. Watching the kids together, having so much fun made it all worth it!

Lego Titanic
Austyn has been interested in the Titanic. One evening before bed he decided to make the Titanic out of Lego. He spent about an hour on it that night and when he got up in the morning he spent a couple more hours. This was the final result! I think it turned out great!
He added many details. One detail was the propeller.

At Lego Club Zoe made one as well.

Legos Again
Lego Club renewed his interest in Legos. It took me some time but after going through a bunch of boxes I found some.

Lego Club - Presentation Skills
We attended Lego Club this week. It was much busier than our first visit. The weather was better so the streets were clear this time.
The club is geared to all ages. They have Legos geared to different age groups.
Each month they choose a theme and the kids can work on things in that theme and bring them in. Austyn didn't know the theme until the morning before we left but he builds so much and saves many of his creations, so he had already made things from that theme. The theme this week was Defense Mechanisms.
This week they held it at a Library. When the little ones get bored they can go and spend time in the children's section. Here is Zoe with her friend playing a video game.
Time is dedicated for everyone to show their creations from the month's theme. Kids can also bring in things they really like that they have made even if they don't follow the theme. Here Austyn is doing his presentation to the group. He is showing how he conducted a drop test on a phone he made.
Here are most of his creations that he presented. There is a gun, a cell phone. Two guns that shoot. A device that spins and hits a Lego piece making it shoot, a gear, a submarine, and a game he made.
One of the kids wanted to play his game so Austyn showed him how to play it.
Everyone takes turns and shares what they made. What a great way to practice presentation skills.

Lego Quest - Maze
This is Austyn's maze for Lego Quest. Here is the link to the entries for Mazes.
After viewing all of the entries, Austyn was inspired to make a game. Here is the first version of the game. He made a spinner. The goal of the game is to collect all of the diamonds. There is a monster and when you land on his spots (the black side of the spinner) he steals the diamonds and in order to get them back you need to spin it to the diamond spots. We also use the spinner to move our men 1 or 2 spots at a time. If we land on someone we need to go back one spot.
We all played it for the first time and as we played Austyn altered the game little by little to make it better.
He was also inspired by the video entry of the maze with a ball.

Lego Club
We made it to Lego Club for the first time this week. The weather was terrible, but we made it anyway. It wasn't too busy, but it was still fun.
Austyn got to crack open one of the new Lego Games and build it. The funny thing is that once the games were built the kids went to building other things instead of playing the game.
The room we were in was right next to the childrens' section of the library. While Austyn was building Zoe could browse the books.
Zoe built a few things as well.
Afterward some of the kids hung out in the library. Austyn can't wait until next time.

Lego Dragon
Austyn has made dragons before. This one is different because it's inspired by the Disney movie How to Train a Dragon.
It also has a tilting head.

Lego Apartment Building with Elevator
Here is the view of the inside of the apartments. We never did get the walls all the way up but it was still good enough to play with.
Here is the elevator.
Here is the front view with the long attached balcony.

Lego Creation - Large House
Here is another Lego Creation by Austyn. This took him a very long time. There is so much going on in this house that I'm not even sure where to begin. Apparently this Lego man is rich and has a crew of people who work for him, doing different tasks. His house i huge and he has two balconies.
We have adjusted to less space. Moving from a house to an apartment has posed some challenges. Austyn's Legos are set up to be used in our kitchen. This is a picture taken of our table, and as you can see, his shelves of Legos are along the wall on our kitchen table. We eat with it there.

Lego Quest - Coral Reef
Although it was a bit rushed for him to get this finished in time to submit to Lego Quest, he did well. Here is Austyn's description.
“There is a red octopus, a white anemone, white coral (block in the middle), gray sand, a baby blue whale, yellow eggs with a clown fish, and a gray angel fish (at the back)."

Lego Quest - Archeological Dig
This is Austyn's Lego Quest Entry for last week.
"I did two archeological digs. The first one was the discovery of an Egyptian tomb. The tomb had been exposed to the sun for a little while. The man is observing the tomb with his flashlight. He knows that it has been exposed to the light for some time because there is a plant growing in it and a scorpion on top of the plant. The second one is a dig that takes place over the tomb. The men are uncovering an alien being (you can see his head sticking out). This tells us that aliens were likely on earth during ancient Egyptian times."

Lego Creations!
You can usually tell what Austyn is interested in by what he makes with his lego. This is a bald eagle.
This is a humming bird.
Here he is taking the humming bird out of it's flower and attaching it by it's feet.

Alice In Wonderland with Lego!
Austyn created this great Alice in Wonderland themed Lego. There is the tiny door with a key hole and then the table with the little glass bottle and the key.
After making it and setting it up in the living room Zoe acted out the character of Alice and pretended to shrink and grow until she finally figured out how to open the door and enter a new world. When she entered the new world she ran outside of our house pretending that was the new world.

Lego Quest - Flags
This week Austyn was involved in Lego Quest again. He made a flag. Here is his description.
"This flag is for the country called 'Buy Land' in Lego World. There is a statue of the President (President Ching) standing in front and behind the flag pole."
Click on the Lego Quest Logo above to go to the Lego Quest Blog and see what was typed about his Flag and to see what others made for their flags. I think he is the 16th one down the page. It was a busy week at Lego Quest!
