Lego Quest

We haven't been doing the challenges for a little while but this time we finished in time and I was able to submit Austyn's entry to the blog. Here is what his entry said:

by Austyn, age 8, Ontario, Canada.

“This is a bridge between two towers. The black and white piece in front is a skyscraper. This gives you an idea of how large this bridge is. On the left side there is an opening at the bottom for cars to drive in and that is where they catch the massive elevator. It holds 50 cars at a time. They go up to the top and can cross over the bridge. The bridge takes about 25 minutes to cross at 100 km/hr. When they are finished being in the right tower they cross back over and go back down the elevator. There is a ton of parking in the towers and people can go there to work, live, shop, take vacations and there are very high viewing areas at the top of each tower.”

After viewing all of the other entries from around the world he decided to make another bridge. Below he is illustrating that the bridge is almost as long as he is.

HERE is the link to this challenge. Austyn's is closer to the bottom.

Lego Quest - Food

Zoe and Austyn both made something this time. Austyn made a roast chicken and lettuce salad and Zoe made a big sandwich. Here is the link to Lego Quest to see what other kids made.

Lego Quest - Maze

This is Austyn's maze for Lego Quest. Here is the link to the entries for Mazes.

After viewing all of the entries, Austyn was inspired to make a game. Here is the first version of the game. He made a spinner. The goal of the game is to collect all of the diamonds. There is a monster and when you land on his spots (the black side of the spinner) he steals the diamonds and in order to get them back you need to spin it to the diamond spots. We also use the spinner to move our men 1 or 2 spots at a time. If we land on someone we need to go back one spot.

We all played it for the first time and as we played Austyn altered the game little by little to make it better.

He was also inspired by the video entry of the maze with a ball.

Lego Quest - Coral Reef

Although it was a bit rushed for him to get this finished in time to submit to Lego Quest, he did well. Here is Austyn's description.

“There is a red octopus, a white anemone, white coral (block in the middle), gray sand, a baby blue whale, yellow eggs with a clown fish, and a gray angel fish (at the back)."

Lego Quest - Archeological Dig

This is Austyn's Lego Quest Entry for last week.

"I did two archeological digs. The first one was the discovery of an Egyptian tomb. The tomb had been exposed to the sun for a little while. The man is observing the tomb with his flashlight. He knows that it has been exposed to the light for some time because there is a plant growing in it and a scorpion on top of the plant. The second one is a dig that takes place over the tomb. The men are uncovering an alien being (you can see his head sticking out). This tells us that aliens were likely on earth during ancient Egyptian times."

Lego Quest - Cityscape

To see all of the great Lego creations entered into this quest click on the logo above to visit the Lego Quest site.

The Lego Quest for this past week was a cityscape. Austyn had done one already and I had a picture handy. Since we've missed our deadline in the past I thought I'd enter the cityscape that we already had, with his permission. This is what he created in the past. This is our write-up about it:

"We are suppose to be going to Toronto so that I can see sky scrapers up close. My Mom showed me a picture of Toronto on the internet so I made the CN Tower and the rest of the city I made after that. The CN Tower is my favourite because for many years it was the tallest free standing structure in the world and it's Canadian."

To see her response click on the logo above to visit the site and read what she had to say.

I'm not sure if he felt like he missed out on making a Lego creation for this quest or if he really loves to make cityscapes (maybe a bit of both), but he made two more cities. He made Toronto. The red city shows the CN Tower clearly. This bottom city he built to show the tallest building in the world. It is in Dubai. The tallest building is called Burj Khalifa.

Lego Quest - Flags

This week Austyn was involved in Lego Quest again. He made a flag. Here is his description.

"This flag is for the country called 'Buy Land' in Lego World. There is a statue of the President (President Ching) standing in front and behind the flag pole."

Click on the Lego Quest Logo above to go to the Lego Quest Blog and see what was typed about his Flag and to see what others made for their flags. I think he is the 16th one down the page. It was a busy week at Lego Quest!

Lego Quest - Metamorphosis

We have started a new challenge that I think will not be ending anytime soon. Austyn absolutely loves Legos. I can see him doing each challenge from here on. This was Quest 17 on their blog. Here is the blog if you want to learn more or join in on the fun.
