This book by Sue Ann Alderson is set up like a diary of poems about a little girl named Kiran Singer. She received the diary as a birthday gift from her grandmother, who invited her to help out with caring for a bog.
It's set up as a whole week of what she witnesses at the bog.
Anna's Hummingbird
Tiny wings a blur,
the hummingbird sips sap
from a woodpecker's hole,
steals bugs from the webs of spiders,
builds her nest of spider webs and plant down.
She uses lichen to hid it, clever bird.
Beautiful, iridescent green,
hers is the sun-sparkle and the sun's sheen!
